Computing Knowledge
I am contractually obliged to know all there is to know about any computer
problem anybody in the
Department
has. This is especially likely to be true with
reference to PCs running DOS or Windows attached to Novell servers. I
also have a passable ability to handle Unix problems, but I tend to pass
the buck for the really tricky ones!
In a former life I've programmed more Fortran than I care to remember,
and lots of C to boot (well, what else do you do with C?). I am obliged not
to help individuals with their
programming problems, but this doesn't stop me completely - I might be
helping in my spare time! Don't expect enormous amounts of detailed help
though, unless you're paying!
Programming Languages
-
FORTRAN 77
- I can spot non-standard F77 at 200 paces.
-
C
- Non-ANSI C doesn't last long either.
-
BCPL
- Nobody ever asks about that any more.
-
awk
- You'd be surprised how much awk you need as a
system administrator!
