I'm an atmospheric chemistry post-doc at the University of Edinburgh, in the Global Dynamics and Chemistry section of the Meteorology Research Group within the School of GeoSciences. I am funded by a NERC / Environment Agency advanced research fellowship.

I'm developing coupled global atmospheric chemistry-climate models to investigate future influences on UK, European and global air quality and climate. My interests cover global modelling of reactive greenhouse gases (ozone, methane), oxidants, stratospheric ozone, and also volcano-climate interaction and the atmospheric sulphur cycle. I am also interested in ground-level ozone air pollution, including impacts on vegetation.

The IPCC Third Assessment Report has now been published:

Climate Change 2001: WG1: The Scientific Basis WG2: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability WG3: Mitigation

PDF files of Summaries for Policymakers and Technical Summaries of these reports are available from the IPCC.

Total Ozone from GOME and TOMS

Total Ozone data from the GOME satellite are assimilated into the TM3 Chemistry-Transport Model at KNMI in near real time. Here are zonal mean data for 1999 and 2000. The latest data are added every month or so. Similar data from TOMS for 1996-1999 are here.

Here is this year's Antarctic Ozone hole depth and area, as measured by NASA's EP/TOMS. Why does the ozone hole vary in size ?

Some results from experiments with STOCHEM

Animations from experiments (these may take a little while to load):

Full tropospheric chemistry runs:

Zonal means: O3

Surface maps (run xaatj): O3 CO

550mb maps (run xaatj): CO

Surface maps (Other runs): NOx SO2 SO2 (Laki eruption)

Tracer runs: Influx of stratospheric ozone
